TRANS BOOK FESTIVAL: TRANSING THE CANON

Trans books—a new thing, right? But what about all the gender crossing in ancient mythology and Shakespeare? Then there’s Virginia Woolf’s Orlando and Louisa May Alcott, author of Little Women, who identified as a man. Maybe trans stories have always existed, hiding in plain sight. For a trans eye on the library catalogue, join Zoe Terakes (Eros), Marcel Liemant (Doom Bringer), and Liz Duck-Chong for a conversation that asks: what does it mean to retrospectively claim our trans literary forebears? Chaired by Yves Rees (Travelling to Tomorrow).

TRANS BOOK FESTIVAL: THE BOOK THAT MADE ME TRANS

Did seeing gender diversity on the page crack your egg or nudge you out of the closet? Around the world, queer books are being banned from libraries and schools, lest they ‘corrupt’ children and young people. But what if we flipped the script and celebrated the power of literature to help us become our truest selves? In this intimate evening of storytelling, hosted by Lantana literary journal, top trans and gender diverse writers share the book that made them trans. Featuring Xiaole Zhan, Jack Nicholls, Bri Fallen, Stone Motherless Cold, and Kai Ash, hosted by Yves Rees (Lantana).
